Battlefield 2042 released a new update that removes one of the flagship game modes of the Battlefield franchise. The Breakthrough 128 game mode will no longer be available after May 19th. The devs also revealed that the next major update will release in early June which is exciting news for all Battlefield fans.
EA feels that reducing our player count here helps to remove some of the chaos from the experience, and in combination with the reductions that we have made to the number of available combat vehicles. This means that the players are better able to hold frontlines more effectively. Players will also find more space to work together and fulfill their individual roles. 128 player modes are better suited for Conquest where gameplay spaces are larger, and where you have a more natural fit for sandbox gameplay.
Update 0.4.0 introduced an unintended change to the behavior of some weapons via incorrect values on their damage tables. In this update, the devs are restoring performance to its intended design and you should feel an overall improvement in weapon performance. The impact of recoil affecting attachments has been lowered, while base weapon recoil has been improved to compensate. This means weapons without attachments now handle better.
The new update introduces a number of changes to existing maps to make them feel a lot more balanced. On Breakway, the update adjusted Sector 4 to reduce the Attackers’ number of Transport Air Vehicles by 1. It also reduced the number of Heavy Ground Vehicles for Attackers and Defenders to 1. This should help balance out the combat experience across multiple sectors on the map. Similar changes have been implemented on other Breakthrough 64 maps as well.
Along with the changes to the maps, there are some changes to weapons as well. Bold Action Sniper breath control has been capped at 5 seconds to prevent players from staying aimed down sights.
